I havent seen the movie yet, but my humanities class was talking about it. My teacher said that its not historically accurate and the movie wasn't really based on the 4 evangelists. Plus, Mel Gibson said, he wasnt basing this movie on historical truth, he claimed he's just an "artist".

On a side note: Those of my friends that did see it said there wasnt much anti-semtisim at all in the movie. If anything more people were more mad at the Romans for the death of Christ than the Jews

There was no Anti-Semitism in it..and I was even looking for it. =P But you're wrong in thinking that more people hate the Romans for it. Even if they know it wasn't the Jews who killed him, they'd use it to hate them. The also completely throw away the fact that Jesus was a Jew =P But anyway, even if they know it was the Romans, they'll blame the Jews...remember The Holocaust? There's been a long history of hatred toward the Jews, and I'm sure part of it has to do with the roots of Chrisitianity =P Personally, I jsut think they're jealous that, according to some religions, Jewish people are the 'chosen people' and go to 'heaven' no matter what.

Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?

Only to the jewish religion you mean that jewish people are considered the "chosen" people. And yes, most Christians feel that Jews are responsible for Jesus' death but true Christians knew that Jesus was meant to die and rise from the dead. It was in fact mainly the Romans that were responsible for Jesus' death cuz they feared more people would bow down before Jesus then the Roman emperor. Only a group of Jews called the Zealots is also responsible for Jesus' death. Each group of Judisim had different ideas of what the messiah was supposed to be. The Zealots believed that the Messiah would be some sort of politicial activist that would one day break away from the Roman Empire creating a new Jewish one. However, Jesus had no intentions of doing so, so the Zealots wanted him dead.

I know about the religion, dear ^_^; People always look for someone to blame, even tohugh ti was technically the Romans who did it...but they should sitll not hold anger to them...withjout it happening, there IS no religion. The Christian religion is not based upon Jesus' existance, since he is simply human. It's when he 'rose again' which made the religion...

Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?

you mean would never have begun Huge Grin. The reason there are no built up hatreds toward the Romans for killing Christ is because after many years after Jesus' death Rome changed. After time, the spreading of Christianity spread so much that even Rome changed its views in the persecutions of Christians and eventually made Christianity the State Religion of the empire. So, in time Rome did acknowledge Jesus but the Jews never did, so naturally there was some kind of built up of blame towards Jews.

Jews didn't acknowledge Jesus because he inadvertently(sp?) created a religious following other than their own, and being a Jew himself, it was considered even more taboo for him to do so.

I never did get why there was talk of the movie being anti-semetic. Me and my Jewish girlfriend went to see it and she found nothing wrong with it. If anything it "blamed" the Romans for the death of Jesus. One part that was not historically correct was the part when they beat him with the fiberglass poles then with the cat-of-nine-tails. According to the Roman law, they could not beat anyone more than 39 times (I think) with either one, but in the movie they beat him 39 times with each weapon. Now, as for the Jews thinking Jesus was not the Messiah. Some do and some don't. Jews who believe Jesus was the Messiah are know as Messianic Jews, but then Jews who don't believe he's the Messiah don't think Messianic Jews are actual Jews. The only reason people could say that the Jews killed Jesus was because they thought he was committing blasphemy because he was a poor carpenter saying he was the Messiah and they expected him to be a rich military leader.

But the ways he did prove he was back then (although there wernet many) were his miracles. But yea he had too die thats why he was brought down to earth.

Are you sure you watched the movie?
It did not blame the Romans for anything. Pilate was portrayed as a sympathetic character who did not want to execute Jesus. However, his control over his outpost was dwindling and the Caesar at that point, which I'm pretty sure was Agustus (or Octavian if you prefer), was not happy about that. The way it was told it looked as if Pilate had no other choice but to crucify Jesus as the Jews had asked because he would risk a revolt if they didn't.

I believe there is a Hell, and by the way, Jaego. If you say 6 billion other people other than yourself are going to Hell then you are saying that everyone is. That's the estimated population of the world.
And, for lack of a better word, 'The Last Temptation of Christ' sucks. It is a grossly inaccurate depiction of the life and person of Jesus Christ. The bible says that Jesus was tempted but did not sin. The bible also states that to even think of sinning IS sinning. So Jesus did not even think of sinning. Sinning in thought is dwelling on a thought that Satan put there. Jesus did not dwell. 'The Last Temptation of Christ'
depicts Jesus thinking of having sexual relations with Mary Magdelene so it is inaccurate. That's not the only inaccuracy though I am sure.

The fuck are you talking about? I don't recall saying everyone but myself is going to hell. And if I did I was probably joking.

And as for all that other crap...you weren't there...so you don't know what happend to Jesus besides what it says in a book that has been passed from pen to pen to pen. In addition to that, you weren't in Jesus' mind, maybe he did have sexual thoughts about Mary Magdelene, he was a man afterall, he just didn't act on those thoughts because it would go against his divinity. What people always forgot is that Jesus wasn't an angel or something, he was a HUMAN being. What the fuck would be the point of him dying if he wasn't even the same species as the people he was trying to save? I'm not trying to sound blasphamous(sp?) or anything, but I really hate it when people who have obviously never known Jesus automatically think he had no human emotions besides non-sexual love. You said it yourself, he was tempted by Satan, and at times he almost "wussed out" (so to speak) because he, like any other person, did not want to die...especially since he was completely innocent.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that I (obviously) don't know Jesus either, so I'm not saying that everything I'm saying is right and everything in the Bible is wrong. That's not the case, this is all just my opinion and some of it may be wrong because I never opened the Bible and examined every word.

Let's see archealogists have found manuscripts dating from Jesus' time and they are almost Identical to modern translations (except in what language they were written in). And God does not sin, and if He were to become human (and He did) then being all-knowing He would know how to resist such temptation even in thought by think of other things. That is why Jesus prayed all the time. If one does not pray all the time, one could give into temptation. Also the only way He could die for our sins is if He was without a spot of sin. The way to be without a spot of sin is to not sin. Sexual love is not love. Love is what you do, not what you feel (1 Cor. 13: 4-8). Jesus felt agape (Godly love) for Mary Magdelene just as He does for all of us, not Eros (sexual desire). I'm sure He found her attractive and had feelings for her (just as a father has for His child or a man has for a close friend), but His feelings didn't go as far as lustful desire. I'm sorry, but I would explode if I didn't say what I have to say. Also it was easier for Jewish men to resist such temptation with the way women dressed back then.

When I was a Christian, I was always confused by the fact that Jesus prayed and spoke about God, yet he supposedly was God. And I still don't see the point of him coming down and dying, it just doesn't add up. In retrospect, the Bible sounds a lot like the insane ramblings of some underground homeless person.
