Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Confirmed Old Mon Mar 1, 2004 10:03:28 PM #6396 Perm Link
After a long absence I have finally returned to ASE Labs/Games! Even though most of you don't remember me, but oh well. Anyway, Rockstar has finally announced GTA: San Andreas for release on the PS2. The release date is set for October 19, 2004 in the U.S. and October 22 in Europe. Just like GTA3 and Vice City, it will debut on the PS2, then later be released on the PC and Xbox. As of right now all anyone knows is the title (hey, it's better than nothing) because that's the way Rockstar works, they release as little info as possible. The game will most likely be set in a San Francisco/L.A. type city. Although we don't know what era the game will take place in, I'm going to guess by the font of the logo that it's in modern time. You can check out the logo here.

Hmm...I wonder what they're going to improve on in THIS game. I noticed Vice City was like a big 'mod' of GTA3. Don't get me wrong, Vice City was/is fun as hell, but it isn't very different from its predecessor.

Then again, I can't imagine the gameplay being any different.

I hope this isn't going to use the same engine as GTA3. This game should have a new engine.

2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!

Well Aron, although it hasn't been confirmed, it will probably use the same engine as Vice City and GTA3. Just tweaked a little bit. This is however the last GTA on the PS2, then they will begin working on one for the PS3.

Sin City was always just a rumor. I think it might have been a couple months after Vice City was released, but on Tech TV's Extended Play, for those who have satellite or digital cable, the info on what the show was about said "Grand Theft Auto: Sin City". I think that's what started these rumors about the next game being GTA: Sin City.

Hey Wildcat, I remember you. Anyway, that link doesn't work. And I still don't think anything has been confirmed by Rockstar. They haven't made any official statements yet.

Anyway, it will kinda be a bummer if it's set in modern times. I kinda liked that rumor about the next GTA being in Las Vegas, set in the 70's. I was hoping for some gambling minigames or Vegas strip shows or something.

But oh well, I'm sure reguardless of where and when it will take place, the next GTA will surely rock. I'm so anxious to know if they made any drastic changes to the game, like if they're gonna let us choose characters, if they're gonna have customizable audio and clothes, etc. But I'm sure they improved on the graphics. I just don't know how much.

I really highly doubt that, considering the amount of fps loss PS2 gamers experienced while playing either game in the series. Rockstar doesn't like to sacrifice one thing for another, and I expect them to be re-writing the engine that the game is run on.

I actually never experienced any frame rate problems with either games. While I imagine the next GTA game will have slightly improved graphics, I doubt it will be that different. Rockstar's recent game Manhunt uses similar graphics (if they have improved, I didn't notice it) as Vice City, and uses the same engine (I think). So it seems like Rockstar seems content to keep making games with the same engine.

But yeah, the next GTA will undoubtedly have more stuff in it than Manhunt, so a new engine would seem like a necessity. Anyway, I just hope we see a quality game (which would mean improved graphics and engine) and not just a hollow money maker.

The first one? No I haven't played that one.

But we were mainly talking about GTA 3 and Vice City, the most recent ones. Those are the ones that can give us the best ideas about how GTA San Andreas will turn out.

I've gotten 100% in Vice City (which takes a long time), and finished GTA 3 at least two times. And I consider myself to be a very observant gamer (I seem to notice framerate problems or glitches more than others) but I never experienced any major framerate issues or glitches in either games.

Well, I did notice sometimes (very rarely to even mention) in GTA3 some framerate issues, but only in rare circumstances and not all the time. Also, GTA3 would not load from my memory card after awhile, so i guess that's a glitch. but I think they improved that in Vice City, cause I never experienced any glitches or framerate problems in Vice City. Except once when Tommy lost one health point just by stepping off the sidewalk. But that's not a major glitch at all.

But I'd assume that they plan on including a lot more in the next GTA, so in that case, if they use the same engine, then they might start running into some problems.

I think they should have it multi-player like someone could be the main guy and someone else a cop or something. But yeah, I remember you Wildcat22 I think my absence was longer than yours, but I know that no one noticed me gone, I never really posted much and when I did it was pretty pointless...
Anyways, guess what?!!!?!?! I'm seeing The Offspring on April 28th! I'm so excited! Are you going to see them any time this year or have you already seen them?
Have fun! Layters!

I'd really like to go see them if they come my way, but they probably won't considering they hardly ever play in Cincinnati, and I don't really feel like driving 2 hours to Columbus or Louisville. But anyway, HAVE FUN!

Hmm, interesting. So I guess it's definitely going to be set in modern times. From the sounds of it it'll probably have lots of rap music.

But I doubt those are the set names of the characters. They might change. Well, I hope they change the names. "Madd Dogg" sounds like an awfully stereotypical name for a black man. Oh well.

I'm sorta dissapointed, I was hoping for some 70's music. But oh well, Rockstar always has some good tunes, so I know I won't be that dissapointed.

I hope it's not ALL rap music...that shit gets old...i can't wait to listen to the new talk radio...i loved Chatterbox but VCPR is better...now, I have to know if the next one will be even better...I liked VC so far because it was set in the 80's, which is my fav. decade...also, it has tons of Scarface references in it...and that's one of my fav. movies! But, I am tremendously excited about this next GTA and I definately cannot wait until it's released, until then I'll keep playing VC and I know I will even after SA comes out...
