Logitech Vision Pro in Linux-having problems Old Wed Oct 29, 2008 4:18:19 AM #77888 Perm Link
I purchased a Logitech Vision Pro as a result of Aron Schatz's review on here.

I just wanted a Plug and Play webcam for Linux. The new v4l2 system sounds perfect. My webcam is not being recognised in Linux.
What software do I need to install to get Linux to recognise the Vision Pro.
Any assistance will be gratefully received.

Hey tonto.

What distribution do you use?

Cheese will pick up the webcam and FFmpeg will as well. Cheese has a nice GUI type program.

Aron,

Thanks for your reply.
I am using Mepis Beta 2 (7.9.80) which should have the uvcvideo drivers built into the kernel.
When I plug in the Vision Pro I get the correct recognition codes 046d and 09a6.
The driver names listed when I go into terminal/Konsole are:
videodev 27136 1 uvcvideo
v4l1_compat 12932 2 uvcvideo, videodev

I have never heard of "Cheese". Is this okay with KDE?
I thought (wrongly) that because of v4l2 I would be fine.

Just to give you some further info, when I search in Synaptic for uvc and v4l2ucp (I installed this one) I get:

luvcview
uvccapture

libpt-1.10.10-plugins-v4l2
libpt-1.11.2-plugins-v4l2
libvideo-ivtv-perl

Any suggestions?

Many thanks,
tonto

I think Mepis is based on Ubuntu.

Any program will work in KDE fine regardless of the toolkit it is written for.

sudo apt-get install cheese

Try that.
