The 15 reasons I hate the GBA:SP Old Sat Aug 21, 2004 10:11:07 AM #9743 Perm Link
Now, before I get buncha moronic idiots yelling "Wat 1s teh metter w/ u????!!!!111one one", let me explain. I love my GBA. It's Jet Black. I spent far too much money on it ($125 without shipping). Now, I will admit that the SP has many advantages over it. Some examples are 1) It's lighter than a normal GBA. 2) When it is folded it is very f'ing small. In retrospect, I could probably fit 4 or 5 of these things in a Game Gear. When it's not folded it reminds me of a Game Boy Color or Pocket. 3) In uneven lighting, it comes very much in handy. 4. The screen isn't as far back from the glass on the front, making less shadows around the corners.

However, before the moronic idiots kill me, let me get out the bad things. 1) If you play it in the dark, you will go blind. My GBA with a Wormlight does not make me blind. 2) It's not very tough. You get a metalicy one and it can be worn out in a month. My freind had a silver one and in aroun 3 weeks in some spots the paint had worn down to the white plastic, which then allowed light through, making the backlight rather pointless. 3) You can't put in batteries whilst the battery pack is recharging. WHY??? 4) No headphone adapter. WTF??? Oh, it's a $20 accesory. *Expletive Deleted* 5) It cost $99. Why is this a bad thing? Know how much a Gamecube costs? Take a guess. That makes the SP a very bad value. 6) If you have the backlight on, if there are words on the screen they will lose sharpness and have shadows around them, like this (but the shadows are above the words). 7) The triggers are too small. VERY VERY BAD for Sonic Advance 2 or 3 or any other twitchy spaz-a-thon game. 8) The directional button feels like it's off a Remote for a TV. It's too digital with no firmness *shot*. It feels like it's a mouse clicker. It's all too easy to press down when you meant to press right. That's a problem you would encounter on a Genesis/MegaDrive. Not a problem with any other Gameboy but this one. 9) The buttons are sunk down. Now yes, this makes it fold flat like it does, but it also contirbutes to the problem just mentioned before. 10) The Select and Start buttons are at the bottom. Some games (Spiderman for example) require you to push the select button at time to accomplish goals and it's at the bottom, making it hard to do. The start button's rather self explanatory on why it shouldn't be there. 11) It's not really comfortable to hold in you hands for extended periods of time. This could be because it is square, but I never had any problems with a Gameboy Pocket. 12) You could get a GBA with a ordered backlit screen by a third party company for $20-$25 less than a GBA SP with a headphone adaptor. 13) There is no clear color (that I know of). 14) It seems rather fragile, everything being packed so tightly inside of it and what would happen if somebody (accidentaly, of course) folded the screen back to far? 15) Some cartridges don't work with it (Super Mario Advance 2 in my case) and some cartridges don't want to fit inside of it.

So, there is my rant of the day.

Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today?
Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection.
Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!

Wow, I didn't know it was that bad. That sounds pretty dinky, the paint coming off and all. I just hope the DS is gonna be of higher quality.

All I know is I dislike the SP bc it came out right after my friend bought me a nice GBA. I felt pressured to buy an SP even though I already had a GBA, and I'm glad I held out. Sounds like it's not really worth the money. Especially when for the same price you can buy an entire Gamecube.
