SG-1? Old Sat Jun 23, 2007 6:15:20 PM #39315 Perm Link
After 10 years, SG-1 is over (except for the straight to DVD movies). Did anyone else catch the finale? I have to admit that I loved that Daniel and Vala got together, even thought I hate Vala. I even loved his initial denial tirade and thought Michael Shanks captured it perfectly. It was very much in character. Could have done with less Cam and Landry, more T'ealc and any O'Neill, though!

WTF with Mitchell!? I don't care that he ran around the ship for decades! I too wish Anderson had been involved.

Here are my thoughts, and it was driving me nuts that no one felt the need to address it:
Under the assumption that nothing of major power use could be done in time,
And the assumption that building crap doesn't somehow use major power,
Why not:

A) Create a new sheild system piece by piece around the exact area the beam will strike the ship.
-- Power would be minor, and could even have smaller independent systems to create it (maybe just straight from the F302's
B) Why not place all the F302's in the path with sheilds on (possibly bying time for repairs ship shields to re-initiate)
C) If all else would absolutely be impossible...why not deconstruct the ship that's in the path of the discharge?

I came up with each of these on an average of one decade at a time...but really? I still beat Sam by a couple of decades.

Old Teal'c...it's just wrong.

My understanding was that the time stabilization was just inside the ship. Any changes made outside the ship would be impossible. If someone went outside the ship, they would be caught in the stopped time immediately. No motion could happen outside the bubble. That's just my assumption, though.

I did get some perverse pleasure in the thought that Cam went insane. I can't stand him. At least when he was running he was not speaking.

The CCR sequence was nice.

What bothered me about the whole thing is that poor Daniel and Vala got together, and then lost what they'd spent 50 years building. Well, at least they didn't remember it.

I've grown attached to Vala, and after the first half of her introduction episode, it's hard not to. I never thought it realistic that she stayed with the team after she and Daniel could seperate.

Technoflutemom, I'm unsure what CCR means (as I always associate it with Clearance Clearwater Revival).

CCR does indeed mean Credence Clearwater Revival Smile There was a long montage of everyone going through the 50-years set to "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" by CCR.

I think Vala and Daniel will eventually get together again. If nothing else, T'ealc will drop a hint to Daniel that she isn't just trying to tease him with her flirting.

I can't believe I forgot the song! I was paying more attention to that than the multi-decade montage! I think I sang it. I was guessing you meant something like ChronoSomethingReversal faux-technobabble-buzz.

There should be tonnes more movies coming. Afterall, if you assume only 2 hours per movie, that can only mean that the two planned now are only 5 episodes worth of movie-age.... I mean, if I was going to get around the SciFi channel's 10 year cut-off, I'd say, "Hey about a few goodbye movies [to get us going until your granted rights contract expires]." Even half a season's worth of stories would be quite nice.

NM: Dunno why I write Clearance when I say Creedence; I blame the SCO group.

I was singing along with it, too! It's on my mp3-player and since watching the episode, I've been playing it in heavy rotation during my evening runs.

I was shocked Sci-Fi shelled out for the rights to it.

Continuum looks like it's going to be like a season cliff hanger and conclusion all in one. The return of killed off characters...hmm, I wonder if Michael will go back to voicing my favourite li'l grey (& pink) alien.

They can go anywhere with this stuff with the way they justify continuity changes.

And remember how everyone but Teal'c found an excuse not to go. I always had dreamed of a day when Thor and O'Neill would go fishing somewhere....it'd be good fun. I wonder what happened to the clone?

I don't remember the details, but they had been traveling back and forth between current time and ancient Egypt, right? They had to keep going back because the future wasn't right. Finally, at the end everything was straight except O'Neill's pond had fish. Everyone noticed but didn't mention it so they didn't have to go back.

Am I even close?

There was only the going back twice, and when the second time (past-future-present) sort-of-kind-of succeded, the information left for the new future-present included an overview of the first (past-present) and second (past-future-present) mission and some attempt at proving it was true by having the second (past-future-present) mission O'Neill mention that he had no fish in his pond. The New future-present O'Neill made some remark about there being two-fish instead (after the team was up at the cabin) and Carter asked about the mention of there being no fish. The episode ends on the phrase, "Close enough."

Time travel is something that should only be done Tuesdays.

To tell the truth I didn't like Vala or Mitchel (Claudia Black & Ben Browder) from when they were coupled in Farscape, but I must admit for the few seasons from when they were introduced, both characters have grown on me, but mostly Vala's! I like when characters GROW in their show and hers was a well written well thought out character as well as creative!

TSG!
